LONDON – Bonhams‘ auction of Goodwoof’s Barkitecture kennel design competition raised a total of £26,000 (about $32,000) on May 21 for the charity Pets As Therapy, concluding the successful annual event at Goodwood in Chichester, England.

The theme for this year’s competition, the brainchild of Kevin McCloud MBE and the Duke of Richmond, was A Companion Piece – Dogs at Work. Competing for the Kennel Design Award, registered architects had a choice of designing a single- or double-occupancy kennel for dogs at work, with a budget of £250 (about $309). Foster + Partners won the competition, which was presented by Mastercard, with its entry, Barc, judged by Kevin McCloud, Bill Bailey and Stephen Bayley. The kennel sold for £3,200 (roughly $3,900) during the auction. Sebastian Conran & Partners came second with Bowowhaus, which also sold for £3,200, while Hall + Bednarczyk Architects came third with Wig Wag, which sold for £800 (about $990).

The top lot of the sale was a Charlie Mackesy x James Middleton bike, which sold for £4,500 (roughly $5,500). Illustrator Charlie Mackesy joined forces with entrepreneur and therapy dog breeder James Middleton to create a one-off Babboe cargo bike, exclusively at Goodwoof. Mackesy finished the special design live on May 21 in front of visitors before it was sold at the Bonhams auction.
