LONDON (AP) – Mary Quant, the visionary fashion designer whose colorful, sexy miniskirts epitomized Swinging London in the 1960s and influenced youth culture around the world, has died. She was 93. Quant’s family said she died “peacefully at home” in Surrey, southern England, on April 13.

OXNARD, Calif. – The Mullin Automotive Museum will host a new art exhibition highlighting the works of Keith Collins. Collins, whose work explores the automotive realm, portraiture, music, sports and abstract genres, will deliver 20 art pieces influenced by the museum’s collection. Titled ArTexture, the exhibit opens on April 20 and does not yet have an end date. It spotlights tapestries, paintings and assemblage sculpture alongside the actual vehicles that inspired the artworks. On display include a painting capturing the Mullin’s 1935 Voisin Type C25 Aerodyne winning Best of Show at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, as well as a painting of the Mullin’s 1936 Type 57SC Bugatti Atlantic and a woodcut of the 1934 Voisin Type C27 Aerosport.

NEW YORK – The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) has appointed Alexandra Schwartz, PhD, to the position of curator of Modern and Contemporary art, craft and design, effective immediately. In this new curatorial role at MAD, Schwartz’s responsibilities will include leading the curation of exhibitions interpreting the museum’s growing permanent collection of more than 3,500 objects. She’ll join the curatorial department helmed by Elissa Auther, MAD’s deputy director of curatorial affairs and William and Mildred Lasdon chief curator.

TACOMA, Wash. – On Saturday, March 4, the Museum of Glass hosted an exclusive 200-person celebration of the legendary Italian glass artist Lino Tagliapietra. Surrounded by family, friends and colleagues as well as artists the maestro has inspired, Tagliapietra made his final appearance in the United States. The artist plans to retire and spend his time with his family in Italy. The highlight of the evening was the announcement that Tagliapietra has selected the Museum of Glass as the place for his work and legacy. The artist will contribute art from his own archive that will fill a new permanent gallery space at the Museum of Glass.
